As Nigeria Burns, the President Is Mortgaging Our Future in France — Najatu Muhammad

Activist Najatu Muhammad has raised alarm over alleged threats to her life, which she attributed to individuals she described as “attack dogs” of those in power. She claimed the threats are a result of her persistent criticism of the government and its officials.

Ms. Muhammad, who chairs the Northern Star Youth Empowerment Initiative, also strongly criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu, accusing it of incompetence and failing to address Nigeria’s worsening security challenges.

In a statement titled “Communities in Abyss, Country on the Brink”, Ms. Muhammad described the performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government as “nothing short of horror and terror.”

“Moreover, I would like to draw the attention of all Nigerians to the continuous threats that I have been receiving from the attack dogs of those in power. I am deeply worried about my life and well-being. However, I refuse to be intimidated or compromised by these agents of evil. My life is in the hands of Allah, the Almighty, not the Nigerian government and its dark agents,” she said.

She also challenged the National Security Adviser’s claim that insecurity in Nigeria has reduced by 90 per cent, calling it misleading. Referring to recent violence, including the killings of over 60 people in Plateau State and the murder of innocent hunters in Uromi, Edo State, she questioned whether these events reflected a failure of governance or a deliberate attempt to destabilise the country ahead of the 2027 general election.

“As Nigeria was preparing to bury the 19 victims of the Edo massacre, news broke of another tragedy—this time in Bokkos, Plateau State. The failure of President Tinubu’s APC-led government is beyond tragic. The question every Nigerian must ask is whether this is a governance failure or a deliberate act by those in power to plunge the country into chaos ahead of 2027,” she said.

According to her, the Bokkos massacre occurred between April 2 and 3, 2025, affecting communities including Mangar Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna, Hurti, Tadai, and Ruwi. She claimed the attacks went on for hours without any intervention from security agencies.

“Families were wiped out, livelihoods destroyed, and over 60 lives lost. This is the price Nigeria is paying for bad leadership—a price that is far too high,” she added.

Ms. Muhammad further alleged that corruption within the security architecture has become normalized, with government officials displaying what she described as a nonchalant attitude towards national security.

“While the country is burning, the president is away in France, mortgaging our future to a declining globalist French elite. Our lives are being taken by marauders while corrupt local politicians and their foreign allies loot our future,” she said.

She accused the government of turning the security agencies into tools for the protection of political elites rather than citizens, alleging that appointments and promotions are now based on tribal affiliations and loyalty rather than merit.

“Promotions are now auctioned. No one but these politicians and their families feel safe. Northern Nigeria has become a slaughterhouse for both Muslims and Christians. The carnage is alarming and, sadly, no longer surprising,” she said.

Rejecting Mr. Ribadu’s claim that insecurity has reduced significantly, Ms. Muhammad said: “When senior government and security officials blatantly lie to the public, we are truly doomed. Such statements show just how out of touch they are with the harsh realities Nigerians face daily. We must all be alarmed.”
