The Iru Ekun Security Network, founded by Yoruba nation activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, says it has rescued an abducted woman and her son after a three-day operation in Kwara State.
According to a statement issued by Igboho's media office on Saturday, the victims, identified as Adijat Kubura Aliqlas and her son, Abdulmalik, were kidnapped in Igbope, Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State before being taken into a forest in Kwara State.
The statement said operatives of the Iru Ekun Security Network worked with officers of the Nigeria Police Force's Intelligence Response Team (IRT) to track the kidnappers through intelligence gathering over several days.
It added that the rescue operation took place in the early hours of Saturday when the security team confronted the kidnappers during an arranged ransom collection, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
According to the statement, the kidnappers fled into the forest with suspected bullet wounds and abandoned the captives, who were later found after calling for help.
The rescued victims were taken to Igboho General Hospital for medical treatment.
Igboho credited the success of the operation to the collaboration between his security team and the Nigeria Police Force. He specifically acknowledged the support of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu, saying police authorities coordinated with commissioners of police in Kwara and Niger states throughout the operation.
He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting efforts to protect lives and property across Oke-Ogun and Oyo State, while urging residents to support lawful security operations and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic.
Police authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the operation.
