One of the aspirants in the recently concluded NDC primary election for Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Ifeanyi Egwuonwu, has accepted the outcome of the exercise and congratulated Engr. Eric Nnamdi Anyamene on his victory.
Engr. Anyamene emerged winner of the primary election after defeating several contenders, including the incumbent member representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Harris Okonkwo. The election, conducted through the Option A4 voting system, attracted significant participation from party members across the constituency.
In a statement issued shortly after the primary, Egwuonwu said he had personally contacted Engr. Anyamene to congratulate him on his emergence as the party's candidate for the forthcoming House of Representatives election.
"Following the conclusion of the NDC primary election, I have personally reached out to Engr. Eric Nnamdi Anyamene to congratulate him on his victory and emergence as the party's flag bearer," he stated.
The former aspirant said democratic contests naturally produce winners and losers, adding that respect for the wishes of party members remains essential to the democratic process.
"Elections naturally produce different outcomes, but democracy is at its strongest when we respect the will of the people and place the collective interest above personal ambition," he said.
Egwuonwu also thanked his supporters, volunteers, stakeholders, youth leaders, women leaders, community representatives, and party members who supported his aspiration throughout the campaign period.
"I wish to express my profound gratitude to every supporter, volunteer, stakeholder, youth leader, woman leader, community representative, and party member who believed in our vision and stood firmly with us throughout this journey," he said.
Calling for unity ahead of the general election, Egwuonwu urged his supporters to rally behind the party's candidate and focus on securing victory for the NDC.
"The contest within the party is over. The greater task of serving our people lies ahead," he said. "I therefore call on all my supporters and political associates to close ranks, embrace unity, and work together with our party's candidate."
He added that the primary election should mark the beginning of a renewed commitment to the development of Idemili North and South rather than continued internal divisions.
"Today, I choose unity. Today, I choose progress. Today, I choose Idemili," he declared.
The statement is expected to strengthen reconciliation efforts within the party following the competitive primary process, as supporters of various aspirants begin to align behind the party's candidate ahead of the next election cycle.
As of press time, party members across the constituency continue to await the party's formal confirmation of the primary election results.
