Police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday, May 22, 2026.
According to the statement, the suspect, identified as Bashar Aliyu, allegedly stabbed his grandfather, Ibrahim Maisaje, inside the victim’s room in Sabon Kariya Village on May 17.
Habib said the case was reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ganjuwa at about 5:00 p.m. by a 58-year-old resident of the community, who stated that the incident occurred earlier that day at about 4:30 p.m.
Police officers were said to have visited the scene shortly after receiving the report. The victim was evacuated to the General Hospital in Kafin Madaki, where he was confirmed dead by a doctor on duty.
The suspect was subsequently arrested, while preliminary investigations commenced. Police said no weapon was recovered from the scene.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for further investigation.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the incident and said the command would ensure justice is served in line with the law.
He also urged residents to embrace peaceful methods of resolving disputes and to report suspicious activities to security agencies.
