Afrobeats singer Mr Real has criticised recent comments by Nigeria's First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, suggesting that Nigerians should consider small-scale businesses such as selling akara, kulikuli and roasted corn to cope with the country's economic challenges.

The First Lady's remarks sparked widespread reactions after she said such petty trades require little capital and could provide a source of income for struggling Nigerians.

Reacting in a post on his Instagram page, the "Legbegbe" singer described the advice as insensitive, saying he would rather become a bandit than engage in the businesses she mentioned.

"I go rather join bandit than to sell kulikuli and akara. And my target will be only politicians. At least if I am caught, they will rehabilitate me," he wrote.

Mr Real's comments appear to reference the Federal Government's rehabilitation programmes for some repentant armed groups. His post has since generated mixed reactions on social media, with some users condemning the statement as irresponsible, while others viewed it as a sarcastic expression of frustration over the country's economic situation.

Neither the Presidency nor the First Lady's office has responded to the singer's remarks.
