Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has described United States President Donald Trump as "the best politician" he has ever met, saying the American leader is known for keeping his promises.

Adeboye spoke at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington on June 23.

The cleric thanked God for Trump and recalled speaking publicly in November last year over reports that the US president was considering military action against Nigeria.

"Thank God for Trump," Adeboye said.

"You see, there is something wonderful about bombing. The only problem with it is that no matter how accurate your bomb may be, some innocent people will suffer."

He said he urged the Nigerian government to act quickly after hearing about the possibility of military action.

"I have never met Trump, but I have followed him, and I like him," he said.

"That does not mean I agree with all his ways. What I like about him is this: one, he tells the truth. He is the best politician I have ever met."

Adeboye also recounted a conversation with the US ambassador during a visit to his residence.

According to him, the envoy asked what he thought of Trump, and he replied: "I like him."

Explaining his response, the RCCG leader said: "He is doing what he promised you he would do."

He added that Trump's actions match his public statements.

"When he says, 'I want to do this,' you had better get ready. Many times, he would even have done what he was going to do before telling you."

Adeboye contrasted Trump's approach with what he described as the conduct of many politicians.

"To be a good politician, you must be able to say two things from the same mouth. That is what makes you a professional politician," he said.

The pastor said he had also shared his views with President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, an RCCG pastor, advising the Nigerian leader to engage Trump and reassure him of Nigeria's commitment to tackling terrorism.
