The family of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has confirmed the abduction of his younger sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her twin sons by gunmen in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to a statement issued by Adelabu’s media aide, Femi Awogboro, the victims were kidnapped around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, while Mrs. John-Paul was taking her children to school.
The gunmen reportedly intercepted the family and forcibly took away Mrs. John-Paul, 43, along with her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul.
The statement said security and law enforcement agencies were immediately notified of the incident and have begun investigations. Efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the victims and identify those responsible.
Mrs. John-Paul is the youngest of five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. Before retiring last year, she worked at the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian. She had relocated to Ibadan with her children after retirement and was preparing to join her husband, who had earlier moved to the United States.
The family expressed concern over the incident but said it remains confident that security agencies will secure the safe return of the victims.
It also appealed to the public to remain calm, avoid speculation, and refrain from sharing unverified information that could affect ongoing rescue efforts.
The family urged anyone with information that could assist investigators to contact the appropriate security authorities.
Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
