Blessing Fubara Snr. has officially joined the 2027 Rivers State governorship race after obtaining the nomination and expression of interest forms of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The development comes hours after Governor Siminalayi Fubara announced his withdrawal from the 2027 governorship contest.
Blessing Fubara picked up the forms at the NDC national headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, signalling his intention to contest the governorship election under the party’s platform.
The governorship aspirant, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the NDC, is a development strategist, urban renewal consultant and grassroots mobiliser with experience in youth empowerment and public sector advisory.
Although both Blessing Fubara and Governor Siminalayi Fubara are from Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State, it remains unclear whether they are related.
Confirming the development, Rivers State NDC Chairman, Hon. Success Jack, said the party was preparing strongly for the 2027 elections.
“Yes, he obtained his expression of interest form in Abuja, and we are prepared to win not only the governorship election but other elections in Rivers State come 2027,” Jack said.
Blessing Fubara’s entry into the race has attracted attention within Rivers State’s political space, especially following his recent defection to the NDC.
During his reception into the party in Abuja, he said his decision to join the NDC was informed by the political future of Rivers State.
“The soul of Rivers State is at stake as the people prepare to take back the state in 2027,” he said.
He was received into the party by former Bayelsa State governor and NDC national leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, alongside other party stakeholders.
Blessing Fubara holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Development and Adult Education and currently serves as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of D’Consiglories LLC.
While supporters of the NDC describe his emergence as the beginning of a new political movement in Rivers State, critics argue that the party still faces the challenge of building a strong statewide structure capable of competing with larger political parties in the 2027 elections.
