President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), according to a State House statement released on Wednesday.

He will take over from Professor Ishaq Oloyede, whose second term ends on July 31, 2026.

Professor Aina, a Computer Engineering lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University, is currently 39 years old and will turn 40 in July. His appointment positions him as one of the youngest to lead the national examination body.

According to the State House release signed by Bayo Onanuga, Aina has worked extensively across digital systems design, examination technology, and institutional reform in the public sector.

He earned his B.Eng. in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

Aina previously had early exposure to JAMB operations during his National Youth Service year, an experience that later informed his academic and consultancy work in examination systems and data-driven administration.

Over the years, he has advised several education agencies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and multiple state ministries of education on ICT integration and assessment processes.

He is a member of professional bodies including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

The Presidency said it expects him to strengthen JAMB’s systems and sustain reforms in Nigeria’s tertiary admission process.
