The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old Cameroonian national, Emmanuel Acha Leku, for the alleged murder of his friend, 22-year-old Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, following a dispute over money obtained through an internet fraud scheme.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Sanusi, disclosed that the case began on May 2, when detectives at the Apo Divisional Headquarters received a report that Chukwuemeka had gone missing. Family members had also raised concerns about a possible kidnapping after they were unable to contact him since April 21, 2026.
According to the police, investigators worked with the Benue State Police Command and used digital intelligence tools to trace the suspects. Leku and his girlfriend, Kazan Vincent, were eventually arrested in Adikpo, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Leku and the deceased were allegedly involved in internet fraud activities. During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed that the pair had carried out a fraudulent operation, but claimed Chukwuemeka kept all the proceeds and refused to give him his agreed share.
Police said the disagreement escalated, leading Leku to lure the victim to a mountainous area in Lokogoma, where he allegedly killed him.
After the incident, the suspect reportedly used Chukwuemeka's phone to demand a ransom of N5 million from his family in an attempt to make the case appear to be a kidnapping.
CP Sanusi said further investigations showed that Leku fled to Benue State after the alleged murder and was planning to leave Nigeria for Cameroon before his arrest.
Police recovered two mobile phones from the suspect, including the deceased's phone.
The decomposing remains of Chukwuemeka have since been recovered and deposited at Sahad Hospital in Apo for an autopsy, while investigations continue.
