Two soldiers attached to the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have died following a road accident in Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The incident occurred on Saturday along 74 Road, where the soldiers were reportedly travelling on a motorcycle when they were struck by a vehicle.

According to Zagazola Makama, a publication that reports on security and counter-insurgency issues, the victims were rushed to the 63 Brigade Medical Centre for treatment. However, medical personnel confirmed them dead on arrival.

The driver involved in the crash was arrested by security operatives shortly after the incident.

Citing security sources, the publication reported that the suspect underwent drug screening and tested positive for cannabis and cocaine.

The suspect has been handed over to the 63 Provost Company for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The remains of the deceased soldiers have been deposited at the mortuary of Asaba Specialist Hospital pending burial arrangements.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
