The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, Engr. Eric Nnamdi Anyamene, popularly known as Ezenwa Obosi, has called on residents of the constituency to uphold the values of democracy, unity, and responsible civic engagement as Nigeria marks Democracy Day 2026.

In a message addressed to the people of Idemili North and South on June 12, Anyamene described Democracy Day as a significant moment in Nigeria’s history, noting that it represents the triumph of the people's will and the sacrifices made by citizens who fought for justice, freedom, and accountable governance.

“June 12 remains a landmark in our nation’s history. It symbolizes the triumph of the people’s will, the resilience of democratic ideals, and the sacrifices of patriotic Nigerians who stood firmly for justice, freedom, and good governance,” he said.

The House of Representatives hopeful emphasized that democracy extends beyond the conduct of elections, stressing the importance of accountability, transparency, and citizen participation in governance.

“Democracy is more than elections; it is about ensuring that government remains accountable to the people, that every voice is heard, and that leadership is exercised in the interest of the common good,” Anyamene stated.

He expressed appreciation to members of the NDC and residents of Idemili North and South for their continued support and confidence in his political aspiration.

“I remain deeply grateful to the members of our great party, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), and to the good people of Idemili North and South for the confidence and trust reposed in me,” he said. “The overwhelming support I have received continues to strengthen my resolve to serve with humility, dedication, and integrity.”

Reaffirming his commitment to seeking election into the House of Representatives, Anyamene said his ambition is driven by a desire to provide effective and responsive representation for the constituency.

“Our people deserve leadership that listens, leadership that is accessible, and leadership that delivers meaningful results,” he said. “I remain committed to championing initiatives that promote education, youth empowerment, healthcare, infrastructure development, economic opportunities, and the overall welfare of our communities.”

The NDC candidate also urged residents to embrace peaceful political participation, mutual respect, and collective efforts toward community development.

“As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us renew our commitment to peaceful political participation, unity, mutual respect, and the pursuit of the common good,” he said. “Let us continue to build an Idemili where leadership is defined by service, where public trust is valued, and where every citizen has an opportunity to thrive.”

He concluded by thanking the people of Idemili for their prayers, encouragement, and unwavering support, expressing optimism about the future of the constituency.
