President Bola Tinubu has called on young Nigerians to remain in Nigeria and take an active role in its development, saying their skills and creativity are essential to national progress.

He made the appeal during his address marking Democracy Day in Abuja, where he focused on youth participation in governance, innovation, and economic activity.

Speaking directly to young people, Tinubu described Nigeria as the primary space for their growth and long-term opportunities, urging them to channel their energy into building solutions at home rather than pursuing prospects abroad.

“To our young people: Nigeria is your home and your future. Build here, code here, work here, and vote here,” he said.

He said national development depends on citizens who choose to engage with challenges rather than abandon them, adding that sustained progress is driven by those who stay and contribute to solutions.

According to him, countries that have achieved long-term stability and growth were shaped by people who remained committed during difficult periods and worked to improve conditions from within.

The remarks come against the backdrop of continued migration of young professionals and skilled workers seeking opportunities outside the country, a trend widely referred to as “Japa.”

Tinubu encouraged greater involvement in entrepreneurship, technology, and civic participation, stressing that young Nigerians have a key role in shaping economic growth and national transformation.

He also reiterated the importance of participation in elections and civic processes, describing them as essential tools for influencing governance and accountability.

The president said his administration is pursuing reforms and initiatives aimed at expanding employment opportunities, supporting innovation, and improving economic conditions for young people.

He expressed optimism that sustained engagement from the youth population would strengthen national development outcomes and help address existing challenges.
