Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has said that voters in Delta State are likely to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election, arguing that the president’s family connection to the state gives him a unique position in its political landscape.

The governor made the comments during an interview on Arise Television, where he framed the coming election as one shaped by personal and regional ties rather than only party competition.

He pointed to the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, noting her Itsekiri heritage as the basis of the connection between the presidency and Delta State.

Oborevwori said this relationship makes the president familiar within the state’s social and political structure, adding that it would influence voter sentiment in 2027.

“It would be evil to vote against your in-law”

Speaking during the interview, the governor said:

“Among the candidates that emerged, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the only one that has an affiliation to Delta State. The man is an in-law here, and it would be evil to vote against your in-law. It’s a family affair.”

He further added that the connection extends into local political perceptions across different ethnic groups in the state:

“In the South-South, the people in Delta are saying this is their own. They were deceived before. Now they can’t.”

The governor also suggested that the First Lady’s background has strengthened support for the administration in parts of the state:

“The First Lady is holding the state strong, and no Itsekiri person will vote against Tinubu. No Urhobo man will because their son is the governor.”
