Army Officer Dies After Wife Allegedly Sets Him Ablaze in Akwa Ibom
A Nigerian Army officer, Lieutenant Samson Haruna, has died after suffering severe burns allegedly inflicted by his wife during a domestic dispute at Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The incident, which occurred on September 22, 2025, was confirmed by security analyst Zagazola Makama. Lt. Haruna, who also served as a medical doctor and Regimental Medical Officer with the 6 Battalion, reportedly had a heated argument with his wife, Mrs. Samson Haruna, before she allegedly poured petrol on him and set him on fire.
According to sources within the barracks, the officer was rushed to the Military Reference Section for emergency treatment and later transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital for advanced care. Despite efforts by medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries.
Military authorities have arrested the suspect, who is currently in custody as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
