The Chief Registrar of the Court of Appeal, Umar Bangari, responded to the uproar over the certified true copy (CTC) of the judgement that ousted Kano State governor, Abba Yusuf, last Friday.

A three-member panel, led by Moore Adumein, initially nullified Yusuf’s election, citing his alleged lack of authenticity as an NNPP member. The court declared Nasiru Gawuna of the APC as the winner.

However, the CTC of the judgement presented a conflicting narrative, stating that Yusuf won the election, sparking confusion.

NNPP’s national secretary, Dipo Olayoku, expressed bewilderment, suggesting a potential change in the judgement post-deliberation. He emphasized the discrepancy between the court’s oral pronouncement and the CTC.

In response, Chief Registrar Bangari dismissed the issue as a “clerical error” and assured that corrections would be made per “Order 23 Rule 4 of the Court of Appeal Handbook.” He emphasized that the error does not invalidate the court’s findings.

The Chief Registrar’s statement aims to quell concerns and assures the correction of the clerical error upon the filing of requests by the involved parties’ lawyers.
