APGA Leadership Change: Party Notifies INEC, ISIEC, Others Ahead of Imo LG Polls

As Imo State gears up for the Local Council Polls set for September 21, 2024, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has officially informed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) of a significant change in its state leadership.

This leadership change follows a recent Supreme Court ruling that recognized Edozie Njoku as the legitimate National Chairman of APGA. The party’s leadership restructure aims to ensure a smooth participation in the forthcoming local government elections.

The announcement was made during a press conference in Owerri, the state capital, by the APGA National Delegate led by National Secretary Muhyideen Imam. Imam emphasized that INEC has updated its records to reflect Chief Edozie Njoku as the party’s National Chairman, as confirmed on the Commission’s website.

Consequently, the state leadership has been restructured, with a 10-man Caretaker Committee now led by Chief Vincent Amadi. Imam urged party members and election aspirants to recognize and follow Amadi’s leadership, warning against adhering to the previous state executive led by Bar. John Iwuala to avoid being misled.

Aspirants who have already obtained nomination and expression of interest forms from the outgoing executive are advised to visit the new state secretariat at No. 144 Wetheral Road, Owerri, to regularize and revalidate their forms to prevent any issues of nullification or disqualification.

Other members of the new Caretaker Committee include Kingsley Osigwe, Henry Opara, Henry Eweama, Philip Onye, Basil Eneremadu, and Henry Oparaocha.

APGA’s National Vice Chairman for the South East, Hon. Tony Uchechukwudi Ezekwelu, reassured members of an inclusive approach to ensure a successful outcome in the upcoming elections.

In addition, the party has written to the Nigerian Army, Police, Department of State Security Service (DSS), and the Imo State Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) to formally recognize Edozie Njoku’s leadership as endorsed by the party’s national body.
