Anthony Joshua Crash: Driver May Face Prosecution as Boxer Suffers Leg Fracture — Source

The driver involved in the road crash that left former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua injured may face prosecution for reckless driving, according to a source familiar with the investigation.

The source said preliminary findings by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) indicate that the vehicle was driven at excessive speed and engaged in wrongful overtaking. Both actions are considered serious traffic violations and may attract criminal charges when fatalities are involved.

Investigators are said to be completing documentation for the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division, which is working with prosecutors to determine the appropriate charges. Dangerous or reckless driving causing death is among the offences under review.

The source also confirmed that Joshua sustained a fracture to one of his legs in the crash.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the incident. However, the case has drawn public attention to road safety enforcement and accountability on major highways across the country.

The accident occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Two of Joshua’s close associates and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, were killed in the crash.
