Another Wave of Killings: Kebbi Attack Leaves Scores Dead After Shiroro Tragedy
Fresh waves of violence have left more than 60 people dead across Kebbi and Niger states, in attacks that echo earlier bloodshed reported in Shiroro Local Government Area.
In Kebbi state, gunmen stormed several villages—including Shabanda, Debebe, and Shaffaci—on Tuesday, killing residents and burning homes and food supplies. Witnesses described a coordinated assault that spread across multiple communities.
Local accounts indicate that at least 40 people were killed, while hundreds fled for safety. Many displaced residents have taken refuge in Yauri and surrounding areas.
The latest killings come shortly after similar violence in Shiroro LGA of Niger state, where armed groups had earlier carried out deadly raids on rural communities.
In the renewed violence in Niger, attackers again struck villages, including Bagna and Erena, killing at least three people—two community guards and a driver—while injuring others. Residents said the assailants operated for hours, looting and destroying property.
The pattern of attacks has forced villagers to abandon their homes, with many seeking shelter in nearby towns such as Gwada, Zumba, and Galadima Kogo.
