Another Night Attack in Kebbi as Bandits Abduct Many in Kurmaci
Another round of kidnappings has unsettled Kurmaci in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State after armed bandits invaded the community on Wednesday night, abducting many residents while others sustained injuries, according to a report from Daily Trust.
More than 30 attackers were said to have entered the area while residents slept, marking a new incident barely a day after 24 schoolgirls abducted from Government Comprehensive Girls Secondary School, Maga, were rescued. The same part of the state has faced a series of raids in recent weeks, including the abduction of more than 40 people from surrounding villages.
A resident, Aliyu Dan Galadima, said this was the third attack on Kurmaci in a month. He noted that several abducted residents from earlier incidents remain missing and added that days before the latest raid, another group of people was taken from Gandun Wasagu.
He called for a sustained security presence, saying communities in the area have been left exposed for too long.
Kurmaci, Gandun Wasagu, and Bena sit along the border between Kebbi and Zamfara and fall on major routes used by bandits moving from the Zamfara and Niger axis, leaving them particularly vulnerable.
When contacted, Kebbi police spokesperson CSP Nafiu Abubakar said he had not yet been briefed on the attack and would reach out to the divisional officer in the area for verification. He had not provided an update at the time this report was filed.
