Angry Youths Attack House of Reps Member Over Poor Representation
A recent visit by Adamu Hashimu Ranga, the member representing Ningi/Warji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, turned chaotic as angry youths attacked his convoy in Ningi, Bauchi State. The incident occurred during the burial of the late Emir of Ningi, Muhammadu Yunusa Danyaya, where the lawmaker had joined other prominent figures from the Ningi Emirate Council.
Elected in 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ranga has faced growing dissatisfaction from his constituents, who accuse him of neglecting their needs since his relocation to Abuja. During the event, frustrations boiled over as youths from the constituency voiced their displeasure, chanting “Ba mu yi, ba mu yi,” meaning ‘We don’t want you’ in Hausa, as the lawmaker prepared to leave the palace.
The situation quickly escalated as the crowd began hurling sand and stones at Ranga’s convoy, causing significant damage to his vehicle. Windows, the windscreen, and rear mirrors were shattered in the attack. Despite efforts by those present to calm the situation, the youths persisted until security operatives intervened, allowing the lawmaker to escape the scene.
Eyewitnesses described the incident as unfortunate, with one source recounting how the attack unfolded: “I came out of the palace deeply saddened by the Emir’s demise, only to see youths throwing sand and stones at a car. When I moved closer, I realized it was our representative being attacked.”
The attack is the latest in a series of challenges for Ranga, who previously faced a recall attempt by his constituents. The move was only halted by the intervention of the late Emir of Ningi and other local leaders.
As of the time of this report, attempts to reach Adamu Hashimu Ranga for comments have been unsuccessful.
