Anambra Retired Directors Threaten Showdown with Gov Soludo Over Pension Review
Retired directors in Anambra State have issued a strong warning to the state government, demanding the harmonization and upward review of their pensions. The group, which met recently in Awka, set a mid-February 2025 deadline for the government to act, threatening further action if their demands remain unaddressed.
In a communiqué signed by the association’s chairman, Sir Fidelis Ezeike, and secretary, Sir Azuka Okeke, the retired directors criticized the delay in signing the negotiated minimum wage salary table, which would pave the way for a committee to review pensions in line with current economic realities. They urged the state government and supporters of retirees to expedite the process.
The association warned that failure to meet their demands by the deadline would prompt them to write formal letters of complaint to the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), the government, and other relevant stakeholders.
Expressing disappointment with the NUP, the retired directors lamented that despite being financial members, the union has yet to provide them with its governing constitution. To strengthen their representation, the group unanimously elected Dr. Dan Ifeatu Obele to represent them at the state council of the NUP, ensuring that members remain informed about issues affecting their welfare.
The communiqué reaffirmed the association’s commitment to advocating for the well-being of retirees, describing itself as a subtle but determined pressure group working for the collective good. The group vowed to continue pushing for their members’ rights, warning that they would escalate their actions if no significant progress is made by mid-February 2025.
