Anambra Police Nab Five Suspected Kidnappers, Recover Stolen Vehicle, Weapons
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested five suspects involved in kidnapping and armed robbery. The arrests followed an intelligence-driven operation conducted by officers of the command, leading to the recovery of a stolen vehicle and a firearm.
The operation took place in Okpoko, near Onitsha, after security operatives received credible information about the activities of a notorious criminal gang. Acting swiftly, the police stormed the location, where they apprehended the suspects and rescued a kidnapped victim.
According to the police, the arrested individuals are part of a syndicate that has been terrorizing residents and commuters in the area. The suspects are currently in custody and are assisting the authorities with further investigations.
During the operation, law enforcement officers recovered a vehicle reported stolen, along with a firearm used by the gang in their criminal activities. The police assured residents that efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate still at large.
In response to the arrests, the Biafra Independent Movement (BIM) has alleged that those detained were security guards rather than criminals. The group claims the location raided by the police was an office used by their members, not a hideout for kidnappers. They have demanded the immediate release of the arrested individuals.
Despite the conflicting accounts, the Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling crime and ensuring the safety of residents. The authorities urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
