Amb. Karen Chinyere James Criticizes Senate President’s Wife Over Harassment Allegations Response
Honourable Ambassador Karen Chinyere James has strongly criticized the wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio over her remarks regarding harassment allegations against her husband. James, a well-known advocate for women’s empowerment and the founder of Women of Substance for Skills Development and Employment Initiative, KAREN (Save Us) Agency, and Pechilly Investigative Limited and Group, questioned Mrs. Akpabio’s handling of the situation and urged her to approach such matters with caution.
In her statement, James expressed disappointment in Mrs. Akpabio’s response to allegations involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, arguing that dismissing the claims outright was unwise. She noted that men in power often engage in questionable behavior and that the allegations should not be taken lightly. Describing Senator Natasha as an intelligent and admired figure, James emphasized that many young women in Nigeria see her as a role model.
James further criticized Mrs. Akpabio for allegedly attacking Senator Natasha instead of holding her husband accountable. She pointed out that as a wife, Mrs. Akpabio is not always present during her husband’s official engagements and should therefore avoid making assumptions about his conduct. Additionally, she accused Mrs. Akpabio of making derogatory remarks by calling Senator Natasha a “content creator” seeking attention, arguing that such comments only serve to discredit another woman rather than address the issue at hand.
The ambassador also suggested that Akpabio’s current controversy could be a form of karma, referencing his past political actions, particularly his alleged disrespect toward former Senate President Bukola Saraki. The debate surrounding the allegations continues to unfold, with increasing calls for accountability and respectful discourse in political discussions. Neither Senator Akpabio nor his wife has publicly responded to James’ statements at the time of reporting.
