Alleged Ill Health: Ganduje’s Family, Aide Speak Out

Amid ongoing speculation about the health of former APC National Chairman and ex-Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, clarifications have emerged from close associates and family members dismissing claims that he is critically ill in a London hospital.

Speaking on Monday, Ganduje’s Chief of Staff and former Kano State Commissioner for Information, Comrade Mohammed Garba, said the 75-year-old politician is currently in London but remains in good health. Garba acknowledged that, like many people of Ganduje’s age, he may have minor health concerns, but stressed that reports suggesting he is in critical condition are unfounded.

“He is fine. Of course, it is rare for someone of Ganduje’s age not to have some minor health concerns, but it is not true that he is in critical condition as people are claiming,” Garba said.

He also clarified that Ganduje has been in London since the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, which explains his absence at the late president’s funeral. “We spoke with him just last night, and there is no problem. Anyone can fall sick, but as far as I know, he is in stable health,” he added.

Garba noted that if Ganduje were truly in critical condition, the family and associates would not hesitate to inform the public in order to request prayers from supporters.

A family source also confirmed to *DAILY POST* that there is no truth to the reports. While the source had not spoken to Ganduje directly, they said they had communicated with those staying with him in London and found no cause for alarm. “We are also just seeing these rumours everywhere,” the source said.

Ganduje, who took over the APC leadership in 2023, resigned from the position citing health reasons. However, his recent appointment as Chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) raised eyebrows and fuelled speculation about the true reasons for his resignation. Some political observers believe the move may be linked to ongoing efforts to reconcile with his longtime rival, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
