Akpabio Reacts to Senator Abbo’s Allegations
SK Blog has reported how former Senator Elisha Abbo, who represented Adamawa North, alleged that his removal from office was a result of his refusal to support Godswill Akpabio’s bid for the Senate presidency. Abbo, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made this assertion during a press conference held in Abuja shortly after the Court of Appeal ruled against his continued tenure.
Senator Abbo went on to claim that there are four more senators, including Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia South, who are facing a similar fate due to their alleged lack of support for Godswill Akpabio’s Senate presidency ambitions. Notably, Abbo supported Abdulaziz Yari, the senator from Zamfara West, for the position of Senate President, while Orji Uzor Kalu had considered a bid for the position but ultimately did not run.
“I heard it from a reliable source which I won’t name now that five senators will be removed from the Senate. Those who did not stand with my brother, my elder brother, and my good colleague, distinguished Senate President Akpabio,” Abbo stated during the press conference. “Those who did not vote for him, five of us are going, and I am number one. Orji Uzor Kalu will go. They have penciled five of us. They told me that I am going because we did not support the emergence of my brother Akpabio in emerging as President of the Senate. This is not democracy. We have hope in the court; let us build the country; the international community is watching us.”
In response to Abbo’s allegations, Eseme Eyiboh, the spokesperson for Godswill Akpabio, vehemently denied any involvement of the Senate President in Abbo’s removal. Eyiboh argued that the outcome of court proceedings is determined by facts and evidence, within the framework of the rule of law.
“Democracy is founded on the rule of law, so for anybody to accuse one of the strong agents of democracy and governance in the mold of Senator Godswill Akpabio, such an individual must be a monument of self-pity and his swansong a discordant escape from reality,” Eyiboh asserted.
He further clarified that Senator Akpabio does not hold any grudges against fellow senators and has moved on from the election that brought him into the office of Senate President. The assertion implies that the court’s decision was unrelated to Akpabio’s personal preferences and that it was solely based on the legal process.
