Akpabio Reacts to Impeachment Plot Rumors
In a swift response to reports of an impeachment plot, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has dismissed the reports as baseless and labeled them as “fake news” and “mischief.” The alleged plot, reportedly being orchestrated by unnamed aggrieved senators, was debunked by Akpabio during Wednesday’s Senate plenary session.
Addressing the Senate, Akpabio ordered the Senate Committee on Special Duties to launch an investigation into the origins and promoters of the rumor. The committee has been tasked to present its findings within 24 hours.
“We are sitting here peacefully doing our work, unaware of the mischief being spread. I believe this matter should be referred to the Police Affairs Committee. The fake news is now referred to the Committee on Special Duties, and they are to report back to the Senate within 24 hours,” Akpabio stated.
He expressed frustration over the growing trend of misinformation, suggesting that individuals behind the rumors might be driven by financial incentives from platforms like YouTube, where higher traffic can generate revenue.
Despite the serious tone of the matter, Akpabio’s remarks were met with laughter from senators, as he reassured the public that the Senate remains stable and that the rumors of an impeachment were completely unfounded.
