Ahmad Raises Alarm Over INEC Appointments: North Produced Just 2 of 12 Chairmen

Former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has raised concerns over what he described as a glaring imbalance in the appointment of chairmen of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Ahmad pointed out that since the establishment of INEC, only two Northerners have been appointed as chairmen, compared to ten appointees from the South. According to him, most of those from the South emerged from the South-East and South-South regions.

Ahmad questioned the fairness of this pattern, insisting that the “stark imbalance” calls for greater scrutiny and debate about equitable representation in one of Nigeria’s most vital democratic institutions.
