Again, Obio-Akpor LGA Chairman Appointments 130 New Aides

Chijioke Ihunwo, chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area (LGA) in Rivers State, has appointed 130 special assistants. The announcement was made via a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, with Ihunwo urging the appointees to “serve diligently.”

The list of appointees includes Helen Nyekwere, Josephine Wogu, Daisy Worgu, Wagwu Hilda, Ogbonna Stella, Goodness Ogbonna, and Grace Amadi. According to Ihunwo, the appointments take immediate effect.

This is not Ihunwo’s first major hiring move. In July 2024, while serving as the caretaker committee chairman of the LGA, he appointed 100 special assistants. Ihunwo is known to be a political ally of Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State.

The chairman has previously made headlines for his political decisions. In October 2024, he removed Nyesom Wike’s name from the administrative block of the council secretariat. Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and the current minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), hails from Rumuepirikom in Obio-Akpor LGA.

Wike and Governor Fubara have been engaged in a well-documented political rivalry, leading to a prolonged supremacy battle within the state.
