After Tinubu meeting, Fubara moves to reconstitute Rivers cabinet
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is expected to forward a list of commissioner nominees to the State House of Assembly this week for screening and approval, following a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The move is linked to a fresh political understanding reached during talks convened by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu between the governor and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Sources familiar with the meeting said the President hosted Fubara, Wike, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and several Rivers elders on Sunday night as part of efforts to resolve the prolonged political crisis in the state.
The crisis has strained relations between the executive and the legislature and affected governance in Rivers.
According to a source, the governor was presented with three conditions to address concerns raised by lawmakers and ease impeachment pressures. One of the key steps discussed was the immediate submission of a commissioners list to restore full executive operations.
The source added that the President urged all parties to adhere to the terms agreed during the meeting and emphasized the need for stability in the state after the period of political tension.
Fubara was also said to have visited Wike at his residence in Guzape, Abuja, after the Villa meeting, where he reportedly offered an apology as part of the reconciliation efforts.
Those present at the talks said the President spoke candidly about the situation in Rivers and stressed the importance of cooperation between the governor and the legislature, while cautioning against actions that could further destabilize the state.
