Address Economic Hardship or Step Down, PDP Governors Tell APC’s FG

Governors under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called on the federal government, led by the All Progressives Congress (APC), to address the pervasive economic hardship or gracefully step down from power.

The statement, issued by CID Maduabum, the director-general of the PDP governors’ forum, emphasized that the current economic challenges know no tribal, religious, or party boundaries. Maduabum stressed, “A hungry man is an angry man.”

While acknowledging the shared responsibilities of all levels of government, the PDP governors asserted that the APC-led federal government has a significant role in mobilizing efforts towards sustainable solutions. They urged that if the government cannot fulfill this duty, it should consider stepping down.

The statement highlighted the achievements of states governed by PDP governors, emphasizing their commitment to developmental policies, regular payment of salaries, pensions, gratuities, and adherence to the minimum wage. The governors expressed their willingness to collaborate with the president to address the prevailing hardships.

Addressing concerns raised by federal officials, the PDP governors emphasized that the APC sought power to solve Nigeria’s problems, not exacerbate them or engage in blame-shifting. They urged a focused approach to problem-solving, calling for cooperative federalism.

Despite acknowledging efforts by key figures like Tinubu, the governors underscored the urgency of effective solutions, expressing hope that these efforts would swiftly lead Nigeria out of its current challenges.
