Abuja International Carnival Makes a Comeback After Eight Years, Announces Culture Minister

After an eight-year hiatus, the Abuja International Carnival is set to return, bringing back the vibrant showcase of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage. Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, the Minister of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, announced the event’s revival in a statement released by her Special Assistant on Media, Nneka Ikem Anibeze.

Expressing her excitement, Minister Musawa highlighted the carnival’s significance in Nigeria’s cultural calendar and underscored the government’s commitment to promoting cultural diversity and bolstering the creative economy. “We are thrilled to bring back this iconic event, which has been missed by many. The Abuja International Carnival is a platform that showcases our country’s rich cultural heritage, and we are eager to share it with the world once again,” she stated.

Scheduled for November 2024, the carnival will feature a variety of activities, including street shows, musical concerts, a boat regatta, Durbar, children’s fiesta, and exhibitions. The event aims to attract international attention, drawing visitors from around the globe.

Kehinde Adegbite, popularly known as Mallam Yankee, and the Managing Director of Yankee Entertainment, is partnering with the Ministry to organize the event. Adegbite assured that this year’s carnival would surpass previous editions, promising a grander and more exciting experience. “We are working tirelessly to ensure that this year’s carnival surpasses previous ones. We have lined up an array of exciting activities that will showcase the best of Nigerian culture and creativity,” he said.

Mrs. Ugochi Akudo-Nwosu, the Director of Entertainment and Creative Economy, expressed gratitude to the Minister for her support, emphasizing the event’s role in promoting Nigerian culture and providing economic opportunities for artists and entrepreneurs. “We are grateful to the Minister for her passion and commitment to the creative industry. This event will not only promote our culture but also provide economic opportunities for our artists and entrepreneurs,” she noted.

The last Abuja International Carnival was held in 2016, and its return is eagerly anticipated by many Nigerians who have missed its vibrant spectacle. Preparations are already underway to ensure a successful and memorable event, promising an unforgettable experience for all attendees.
