Abuja: House Agent Stabs Colleague to Death Over N1,000 Inspection Fee

A 44-year-old house agent, Arogundade Gbenga, popularly known as Baba Ibeji, was fatally stabbed by a colleague following a heated dispute over a N1,000 house inspection fee in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The tragic incident occurred on Friday around 10 a.m. at Byazhin Across, Kubwa, in the Bwari Local Government Area of the FCT. According to reports, the altercation began when Gbenga allegedly slapped a fellow agent, Ogbuabo Chibugo, who also operates a chemist in the area. In a fit of rage, Chibugo reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Gbenga.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the confrontation arose over the payment of an inspection fee of N1,000. “There was a disagreement between Baba Ibeji and the other agent, an Ebira man. After Baba Ibeji slapped him, the man became enraged and stabbed him,” a source revealed.

Gbenga was immediately rushed to the Kubwa General Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead. His body has since been deposited in the hospital’s mortuary, pending an autopsy.

Following the incident, Chibugo fled the scene to avoid retaliation from local residents. However, police later apprehended him in a nearby residence, where he had sought refuge.

A security source confirmed the arrest, noting that officers also evacuated Chibugo’s wife from the area to ensure her safety. FCT police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway. “The suspect has been arrested and detained. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation,” she said.
