Abuja Faces Power Outage as Vandals Target TCN’s Gwagwalada-Kukwaba-Apo Transmission Line
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed the vandalism of its Gwagwalada-Kukwaba-Apo 132KV Transmission line 1, specifically between Towers 23 and Tower 25, according to a statement by TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah.
The incident, suspected to have occurred around 1 am on Sunday, led to a disruption in bulk power supply on the line. TCN promptly initiated an early morning investigation by its linesmen, revealing a vandalized section between Tower 23 and Tower 25. The vandals not only damaged the line but also made off with conductors, resulting in a power outage at the Kukwaba Transmission Substation.
In response to the situation, Mbah noted that TCN has implemented a temporary solution by restoring bulk power supply to the Kukwaba Substation through the Apo Substation. Additionally, arrangements are underway to facilitate the necessary repairs on the affected transmission line. The company is actively working to minimize the impact of the vandalism on power distribution in the area.
