Abia State Government Announces Cancellation of Nursing Schools’ PTS Results

The Abia State government has officially nullified the results of the Preliminary Test Sessions (PTS) conducted for admission into government-owned nursing schools. The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu, during a press briefing at the Government House in Umuahia, following discussions in this week’s State Executive Council meeting.

Commissioner Kanu disclosed that a fresh date would be scheduled by the State for the retaking of the PTS examinations. Importantly, he emphasized that students would not be required to make any additional payments for the re-sit, seeking to alleviate concerns among the affected nursing school candidates.

The Commissioner highlighted that investigations into the matter were still underway. He explained that a dedicated committee had been appointed to probe the allegations surrounding the manipulation and compromise of the examination results. This committee engaged with both the aggrieved students and the officials involved in the petitions, gathering complaints from all parties involved.

The decision to cancel the results comes on the heels of protests staged by nursing students in Umuahia capital two weeks ago. The students, alleging widespread manipulation of the released examination results, had called for the cancellation of the PTS results. Some even demanded the removal of the Abia State Director of Nursing Service, Mrs. Onyeukwu Nwakaego.

Governor Alex Otti, responding to the students’ grievances, promptly established a committee to investigate the allegations. He urged the complainants to present evidence supporting their claims for a thorough examination. Governor Otti assured that anyone found culpable would face consequences, underscoring the commitment to a fair and transparent resolution of the issue.
