Abia Government Postpones Schools’ Resumption for 2024/2025 Session

 

 

The Abia State Government has announced the postponement of the resumption date for both public and private schools in the state for the 2024/2025 academic session. The new date for resumption is now set for Wednesday, September 23, 2024, instead of the previously scheduled Monday, September 16.

 

The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Okey Kanu, made the announcement during a press briefing in Umuahia, citing the overlap with a Muslim holiday as the reason for the change in schedule.

 

In addition to the rescheduled school opening, Mr. Kanu revealed that the second phase of teacher training will take place from September 11 to September 20, 2024. The training, part of the government’s ongoing education sector reforms, will be conducted across three centers: Aba, Umuahia, and Ohafia, with a target of training 1,800 teachers. The first batch, completed earlier this year, saw over 200 teachers undergo similar training.

 

In another development, the Abia State Government has granted a 90-day moratorium for property owners in Aba who have not yet registered their landed properties. During this period, they can register at the old rates. This initiative aims to streamline property records in the city and enhance urban planning.
