Abba Kyari Returns to Kuje Prison After Two-Week Bail
The Federal High Court in Abuja has denied bail to suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, along with two other senior police officers facing drug-related charges.
Presiding over the case, Justice Emeka Nwite ruled that the defendants failed to present sufficient evidence to justify the court’s discretion in granting bail. The judge emphasized that judicial discretion must be exercised judiciously, and in this instance, the circumstances did not support granting bail.
This decision follows a temporary bail granted to Kyari about three weeks ago, which allowed him a two-week release on compassionate grounds to attend his late mother’s burial. The bail was set at N50 million, with a requirement for a surety in the same amount.
