54-Year-Old Nigerian Woman Gives Birth to 11 Babies, Family Seeks Urgent Assistance
A Nigerian man is urgently appealing for financial aid after his 54-year-old wife, Alake Latoyosi, gave birth to 11 babies in Cotonou, Benin Republic. The remarkable delivery occurred in two phases: six babies on August 7 and five more on August 14. The father, Yahaya Nafiu, 56, is now struggling to cover the substantial costs of caring for his family.
Nafiu, who is affiliated with the Ilorin Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), reported that the first set of six babies included eight males and three females. Tragically, two of the girls did not survive. Despite the initial joy, the situation has become dire as Nafiu faces overwhelming financial strain.
The unusual pregnancy lasted over three years, and a subsequent scan revealed the presence of additional babies, leading to a second delivery. Nafiu claims that the hospital’s inability to perform a Caesarean section was due to spiritual interference.
Abdulmumini Abdulmalik, national president of IEDPU, highlighted the historic nature of the event, noting a previous instance in Ilorin where a woman gave birth to decuplets about a century ago. Abdulmalik expressed support for the family and urged both the government and individuals in the Ilorin Emirate to provide financial assistance to help care for the newborns and their mother.
