42-Year-Old Historian Wins Polish Presidential Election
Karol Nawrocki, a 42-year-old conservative historian, has won Poland’s 2025 presidential election, defeating liberal rival Rafal Trzaskowski in a closely contested runoff.
The Polish Electoral Commission (PKW) announced Nawrocki as the winner on Sunday after the final votes were counted. He secured 50.9 percent of the vote, narrowly edging out Trzaskowski, the mayor of Warsaw, who received 49.1 percent.
The race advanced to a second round after no candidate secured an outright majority in the first round of voting. Nawrocki’s victory marks a significant moment in Polish politics, signaling continued support for conservative leadership amid ongoing national debates over history, identity, and European integration.
Nawrocki is scheduled to take office after being officially sworn in on August 6.
