300-Level UNILAG Medical Student Found Dead; Suicide Suspected
A 300-level medical student at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), identified only as Williams, has been found dead just before the start of the university’s examinations scheduled for today.
The cause of death remains unclear, but Professor David Oke, Provost of the College of Medicine, has indicated that suicide is a potential cause. Professor Oke cited a cryptic message posted by the student, including a “goodbye” note, which may suggest the student was under significant pressure from the upcoming exams.
The provost described the situation as “shocking” and confirmed that an autopsy will be conducted after a meeting with the student’s parents today. He emphasized that while suicide is suspected, no definitive conclusion has been reached.
The Association of Medical Students University of Lagos (AMSUL) has also confirmed the student’s death. In a message circulated within their WhatsApp group, AMSUL expressed deep sadness and urged members to support one another during this difficult time.
