2027: North’s Plan to Unseat Tinubu Could Destabilize Nigeria — Shehu Sani

In a recent interview with Arise Television, former senator Shehu Sani has warned Northern leaders against their alleged plan to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential elections. Sani cautioned that such a move could jeopardize the unity of Nigeria.

Sani urged Northern leaders to support Tinubu’s policies, which he claims will benefit the Northern region, rather than seeking to gain more political power. He emphasized the region’s ongoing struggles with insecurity and poverty and suggested that unity and cooperation would serve the North better than political upheaval.

“There is evidence of rallying forces, political forces from the North, trying to use former President Buhari as a rallying point to evict the government of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. They hope to portray the government as undermining the North and failing its campaign promises despite receiving significant votes from the region. Such attempts can create serious problems for our country,” Sani stated.

He highlighted that during Buhari’s eight-year tenure, no serious Southern politician attempted to remove him from office, and stressed the importance of prioritizing national unity over regional power struggles.

“What will happen if Southern politicians also decide to unite and take a similar stance? There will be no Nigeria. For the sake of the country’s unity and future, Northern leaders should sacrifice their personal ambitions for 2027 and wait until after Tinubu’s second term,” Sani advised.

Sani also urged Northern leaders to focus on resolving the region’s issues and called on Tinubu’s administration to implement restructuring. He believes this systemic change is essential for addressing Nigeria’s underdevelopment.
