2027: “I Will Stay in PDP and Work for Tinubu” – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while pledging unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu. Speaking in an interview with BBC Pidgin published Saturday, Wike stated clearly that he has no intention of leaving the PDP despite serving in Tinubu’s administration.

Responding to questions about his political loyalty, Wike dismissed suggestions of defection, declaring, “I can’t do that, I’m not afraid – how will I build a house and you now ask me to vacate the place?” He emphasized his foundational role in building the PDP and insisted he would not abandon it. “It’s you that will leave the house, not me that built it,” he said.

Wike criticized elements within the PDP, particularly from the South-East, accusing them of issuing baseless threats despite lacking significant political clout. He singled out former governors Achike Udenwa and Sam Egwu, questioning their influence within the party. “We that have produced a governor and National Assembly members have not issued any threat. It’s you that can’t give your party three percent that is threatening,” he said.

Addressing the 2027 presidential election, Wike ruled out any ambition to challenge Tinubu, stating it would be illogical to run against someone he is currently working with. “I will not contest again. I should contest against somebody I’m working with? Who would win it if not him?” he asked.

Wike concluded by criticizing what he described as fraudulent tendencies within the PDP leadership, warning that such behavior would be their downfall.
