18-Year-Old Nigerian Student Sentenced to Three Years in Prison for Stealing Trousers, Electronic
An 18-year-old Nigerian student, Promise Ayiki, was sentenced to three years in prison by a Jos Magistrates’ Court on Monday for trespassing and stealing. Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos delivered the sentence after Ayiki pleaded guilty to the charges. In addition to the prison term, the magistrate gave Ayiki the option to pay a fine of N200,000 or serve an additional two years in prison. He was also ordered to compensate the victim, Victor Anzizi, to the tune of N500,000, or face another year in jail if he fails to pay.
The prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat, informed the court that the incident was reported on August 18 by Anzizi at the area command Police station. Gokwat explained that Ayiki had unlawfully entered Anzizi’s house and stolen two phones, one tablet, trousers, and suits, collectively valued at N450,000. The offence, according to Gokwat, violated the Plateau Penal Code Law.
