18-Year-Old Becomes Nigeria’s Youngest Commercial Pilot
At just 18 years old, Mohammed Aminu Sani has become one of Nigeria’s youngest commercial pilots, earning his United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Commercial Multi-Engine Pilot License from Phoenix East Aviation in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Sani completed the rigorous 10-month programme without failing a single checkride, a feat that underscores his discipline, resilience, and focus. In a statement, he said, “Becoming a pilot has always been my childhood dream, and today I am proud to say I’m living that dream and enjoying every step of the journey. It’s been an incredible experience filled with hard work, discipline and passion. I hope my story inspires others to chase their dreams with determination and never give up on what they believe.”
Born and raised in Abuja, Sani attended Al-Hidaayah Academy before moving on to The Regent College Abuja, where he graduated with distinction in Economics Foundation. His strong academic foundation paved the way for his flight training in the United States, where he trained under varied conditions, including night flights, cross-country missions, and instrument-rated navigation through rain and low visibility.
During his training, Sani logged over 50 hours on multi-engine aircraft such as the PA-34-200 Seneca and more than 30 hours of cross-country flight time. He now officially holds an FAA Commercial Pilot License (AMEL).
Sani’s achievement is more than a personal milestone; it resonates with Nigeria’s youth, showing that age is no barrier to excellence. He aspires to join a leading airline, continuing to hone his skills and representing Nigeria proudly among the world’s elite aviators.
