18 Killed in Clash Between Vigilantes and ‘Repentant Bandits’ in Katsina
Eighteen people have died following a violent confrontation between local vigilante groups and ‘repentant bandits’ in Falale and Kadobe villages, Jibia Local Government Area.
According to Katsina Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Muazu, the incident began on March 17 when members of a vigilante group engaged armed suspects, neutralizing three of them. The encounter prompted a retaliatory attack by other suspected bandits, resulting in the deaths of 15 additional residents.
Security forces, including the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and Civilian Watch (C-Watch), joined community leaders to bring the situation under control. Dr. Muazu confirmed that the joint effort prevented further casualties and restored order to the affected villages.
The commissioner urged residents to remain calm while investigations continue. “We are committed to ensuring justice for the victims and preventing future incidents. The state government remains focused on securing lives and property across Katsina,” he said.
