17-Year-Old Nigerian Wins Full Scholarships to Study Software Engineering
A 17-year-old Nigerian student, Emmanuela Ilok, has received full scholarships to study Software Engineering from several prestigious universities, including Stanford, MIT, Yale, UPenn, Princeton, and Columbia.
This remarkable achievement was announced by education activist and CEO of Educare, Alex Onyia, on his X page. Onyia highlighted Ilok’s academic excellence and national recognition, noting her award as Nigeria’s best in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education by the British Council.
Ilok’s accomplishments extend beyond academics. She developed software that uses Machine Learning to detect breast cancer in women, achieving a 91% detection accuracy. Onyia, who facilitated a virtual meeting for Ilok to guide other Nigerian students on securing similar opportunities, praised her potential. “We have a superstar in her,” he remarked, emphasizing the importance of discovering and supporting talents like Ilok.
In a related development, another young Nigerian prodigy, Ugwoezuonu Ogechi Zara, recently earned an N21 million scholarship for achieving a perfect score in the National Mathematics Competition organized by the Mathematics Association of Nigeria.
