17 Almajiri Students Burnt to Death in Zamfara School Fire
A devastating fire at an Islamiya school in Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State has claimed the lives of 17 Almajiri students. The victims, who were trapped inside their study hall, were burnt beyond recognition in the late-night inferno on Tuesday.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire raged for approximately three hours, leaving 16 others injured. A local resident, Abdulrasaq Bello Kaura, suggested that the fire was triggered by the ignition of stored sticks, locally known as kara.
A source familiar with the incident explained that around 100 students were inside the building when the fire started. Although efforts were made to evacuate them, it was only after the flames subsided that the bodies of the deceased were discovered. The remains of the victims, reduced to charred body parts, were later buried on Wednesday.
The Chairman of Kaura-Namoda Local Government, Comrade Mannir Muazu Haidara, confirmed the tragedy, stating that he was on his way to the scene and would provide further details in due course.
