11 Killed as Bus, Truck Collide on Benin–Agbor Road
At least 11 people have been confirmed dead following a road crash involving a commercial bus and a truck along the Benin–Agbor Road in Edo State.
The accident occurred on Saturday at Okhuahe community, according to the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC). Seven other passengers sustained injuries.
The crash involved an 18-seater commercial bus heading towards Lagos and a truck. Eyewitness accounts indicated that the bus driver attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided head-on with the oncoming truck.
Confirming the incident, the Edo State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Cyril Mathew, said 11 victims died on the spot.
“The crash involved a truck and an 18-seater bus. The bus attempted to overtake another vehicle and, in the process, had a head-on collision with an oncoming truck,” Mathew said.
He added that the injured passengers were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were evacuated to a morgue.
The FRSC warned motorists against dangerous driving practices, particularly improper overtaking, noting that such actions remain a major cause of fatal accidents on Nigerian highways.
