Woman Collapses After Losing N2.3 Million in FCT Market
A trader known as Rukaiyyat collapsed after reportedly losing N2.3 million in cash at the Abaji main market in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Friday morning.
According to eyewitness Yakubu Musa, the incident occurred around 9:45 AM while Rukaiyyat was in the market to purchase farm produce. The trader, who travels from Auchi every five market days, was measuring out melon and groundnuts when she realized her money was missing.
“She was busy measuring grains when the sack containing her money disappeared,” Musa stated. “After measuring several sacks, she was about to make her payment when she discovered the sack with her cash was gone.”
Witnesses reported that Rukaiyyat collapsed upon realizing her loss, which she claimed was a loan obtained in Edo State to fund her business. Market traders rushed to her aid, as she became overwhelmed with emotion, crying out and expressing her distress over the missing money.
Adding to the day’s misfortunes, another woman in the market also experienced a theft when unidentified individuals stole her half bag of maize. This woman was reportedly moved to comfort Rukaiyyat in her time of crisis.
As of the time of this report, the spokesperson for the FCT police command, SP Adeh Josephine, had not yet confirmed the incidents. The market remains on alert as traders express concern over the security of their belongings.
