Why I Voted for Buhari, APC in 2015 – Aisha Yesufu
Aisha Yesufu, a well-known social critic and vocal supporter of Labour Party’s Peter Obi in the recent presidential election, has explained why she voted for former President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2015 election.
In a post on her X account, Yesufu revealed that her vote for Buhari was primarily because of his running mate, Professor Yemi Osinbajo. She said she initially hesitated to support Buhari, especially after opposing him following the 2011 riots, but eventually accepted her decision a few months into his presidency.
Yesufu criticized Buhari’s leadership style, noting that he was known for delegating responsibilities, but claimed that Osinbajo, who served as Vice President, ended up as a “toothless collaborator.” She emphasized the limited power of the Vice President role in Nigeria, comparing it to being “worse than a spare tyre.”
She also expressed her views on the current political landscape, questioning those who see Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as a political alternative. According to Yesufu, such perspectives highlight how former President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure indirectly paved the way for Buhari’s rise.
